Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is characterized by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis without evidence of active tuberculosis (TB) disease, including the absence of clinical signs or symptoms and a normal chest radiograph (1). In 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that approximately 1.7 billion people, or 23% of the worlds population, were estimated to have LTBI (2), and in a lifetime, approximately 8 to 10% of cases of LTBI reactivate into active TB with its clinical manifestations and spread potential (1).
