Product Description
Colostomy bagA colostomy bag, also known as a stoma bag or ostomy bag, is a small, waterproof pouch used to collect waste from the body after a colostomy surgery. This surgery involves creating an opening called a stoma in the abdominal wall, allowing waste products to be excreted through the stoma rather than through the colon, rectum, and anus.
Types of Colostomy BagsThere are two main types of colostomy bags:
- One-Piece Pouch: The bag and the flange (part that sticks to the skin) are joined together. The entire appliance is removed when full and then disposed of.
- Two-Piece Pouch: The bag and flange are separate, but can be connected. The flange can be left on the skin for several days, and the bag can be removed and disposed of several times a day.
Changing and Emptying the Bag
- Closed Bags: These may need changing 1 to 3 times a day.
- Drainable Bags: These need to be replaced every 2 to 3 days and are suitable for people with particularly loose stools.
